Gallstones are quite common in people over the age of 40. But most people don't notice them because the stones don't cause any symptoms. Treatment is usually only a good idea if there are noticeable symptoms. This is because that means there is a greater risk of complications.
The possible complications of gallstones include inflammation of the gallbladder, bile duct or pancreas and obstruction of the bowel. Complications of Gall Stone Disease
1.Acute Cholecystitis i. e severe abdominal pain, vomiting, mild fever requiring hospitalisation due to acute infection in gall stone
2.Acute gall stone pancreatitis :It could be life threatening
3.Obstructive jaundice due to slippage of stone from gall bladder to bile duct
4. Long standing gall stone may be associated with gall bladder cancer
